My Free Weekend

Well, I'm back at work after having a luxurious 2 days off in a row. Of course, now I have to work 7 days in a row, but at least I get 1 day off after that before I start again *grumble, grumble*. Or maybe, *robble, robble*.
Still, my two days off were well enjoyed. I had two nights out entirely free! First, I got comp tickets to the Velvet Revolver show at Lakewood (I refuse to sell out and call it HiFi Buys). For free tickets, they were actually very nice seats. The best way to sum up the concert came from Scott Weiland, who after a couple of songs came up and said/shouted, "Ya know what we do? We play Rock n' Fuckin' Roll!" Then a giant drape behind them was pulled down to reveal a sign that said "Rock & Fuckin' Roll" and had pictures of sexy ladies on it. Now THAT's rawk! Watching Scott Weiland and Slash together is one hell of an experience. They're both intimidating in entirely different ways. Scott Weiland is entirely psychotic- jumping all around, screaming into a bullhorn, and he has this look in his eyes like he's about to snap. He was like a strange hybrid of Mick Jagger and, for some reason I can't define, Jim Morrison. Yeah, he's that good. Slash, on the other hand, never moved more than five feet for the whole concert, he just stood there tearing up the guitar like, "Yeah, I'm a badass, so what?" It felt like if you got too close he'd punch you in the face. He played a total of seven guitars throughout the night, but the highlight was the third encore, when he came out and put on his top hat. Quite the experience. The other guitarist (whose name I don't know) was trying really hard to be The Edge. He dressed like The Edge, had the same beard as The Edge, and played his guitar in the same way as The Edge. He was NOT The Edge. He was good, but not that good. Still, it was a badass concert. Rock at its purest.
Hoobastank was the opening act. They didn't suck.
Then, last night, my girlfriend's friend got tickets to see Jimmy Pardo at the Funny Farm in Roswell. The opener for him was a guy named Dan Kaufman. He was a VERY funny little Jewish man (the best kind of funny man). Hilarious set, exactly my kind of comic. After the show, I told him he had a good set, and he said he noticed we were the "Hip Table" down front who actually seemed to get him (most of the audience was kinda dead). I don't think I've ever been called "Hip" before, even if he was only humoring me. Check him out if you get the chance. Then, Jimmy Pardo did almost an hour of knockout comedy. He was picking on the audience, making fun of himself, and basically just being funny. I bought his CD afterwards, hopefully its a recording of a live set, because this guy knows how to feed off a crowd. Also well worth seeing.
So, that's my fun weekend. And I paid for neither of the events. I mean, I had to buy my crappy reuben at the club last night, but that was it. Not a bad deal for a weekend's entertainment.
